TiPS to Write It: How do we help stuck students get started? How do we model the process of transferring thinking on to paper/screen? These colorful tools clearly and logically demonstrate how to 'Think it,' 'Picture it,' 'Say it,' and then 'Write it!' This TiPS to Write It process helps students gather and generate ideas by holding on to thoughts, visualizing details, verbalizing for oral development, and writing as a natural culminating step. This step-by-step strategy connects the dots for students who don't know how to get started as writers or who need help to elevate their writing by including crucial composition steps. The TiPS to Write It Chart and Cards are utilized to effectively communicate across content areas and writing text types.

Writing Words: Do your students stop their writing flow when they don't know how to write a word? How can we build student strategies for writing words independently? This student-friendly chart offers writers a set of strategies for acquiring and using multiple tiers of vocabulary words. The Writing Words Chart reminds writers to ask themselves if they know the word they are trying to write or not. If it is a known word, they write it 'As Fast as a Snap.' If it is an unknown word, they 'Find it' in print or 'Sound it Out' by writing the parts they know. The Writing Words Chart empowers the students to aim for higher level vocabulary in written output to emphasize meaning without being stalled by the spelling process. Try it when a student asks, "How do you spell....?"
